Hello Dave, I am another Dave and have a 22ft Catalina boat moored at the Marina, and I have had an annual slip for a few years now. It took some years on the wait list before I got my annual slip and I know that one of the reasons that I got the boat was access to a slip at the COLD LAKE marina. I did have to pay a premium for the monthly slip I used for the years I was on the wait list, but knowing that I was coming up the list helped. I hope that preallocated slips for sail boats will help people such as yourself to get a boat into the marina. That should also help to grow the number of sail boats in the marina. I also feel that sailing is not a sport in decline. The sailing community in Cold Lake is so supportive of visitors and newcomers, that alone will grow the sport in the area.

I would love to be part of the sailing regatta here in town! I currently have been on the waiting list for 2 years just trying to get my Catelina25 sailboat in the water. I think if you want to be "The city of sails" and want to promote that image, you have to be willing to support it. Its a lot more difficult/impossible to rig a sailboat for just a day on the water, whereas in a motor boat you can be ready to go in 10mins.

In response to Councillor Chris Vining statement “It sounds to me that they’re just involved in a sport that has got seriously declining numbers.” This is just not true, the reason for the decline in numbers is because it is not feasible to buy a boat and wait 3-5 years for a dock! I considering selling my sailboat just so I can get a motorboat instead cause I least I can be out on the water. All in all I don't think sailboats should jump in front of others on the list but I think its high time something is done for marina expansion.

It's always good to see coverage in the press, especially if it's even handed. An adversarial approach never works.
Keep up the pressure folks! It is imperative that we keep our sport alive. Let's be willing to work at making our sport accessible, and keeping the lifestyle engrained in Cold Lake culture.
See you on the lake!
