Commodore Message
Year in Review 2008

Another sailing season has come and gone! The annual fall meeting of the Cold Lake Sailing Association was held on October 18, 2008 at the Cold Lake Marina. The 2009 season promises to be an active and exciting one, with a brand new slate of elected members on the Executive, each bringing forward his own expertise and new ideas. We welcome Phil Creteau as Secretary/Treasurer; Blair Taylor as Vice-commodore; Stig Lorentzen as Race Director; and Bruce Lockhart as Fleet Director. Christian Gauthier remains on board as Web Master and yours truly remains Commodore for another term. I appreciate the support and confidence of the membership despite my medical hiatus this past summer. Members who were not present at the annual meeting should be aware of a couple changes in procedures:
-in place of purchasing trophies for race winners engraved dash plates are awarded. First place winners will hold permanent trophies where applicable for one year, and will also receive engraved dash plates.
-the Schedule of Events for the following season is prepared in September and the information relayed to requesting organizations for preparation of tourism guides for the coming year.
-the marina room is booked for all after race events/meetings of the CLSA.
The new Executive is committed to handling several items brought forward by the membership at the fall meeting. Among these are the format of the Prairie Endurance Challenge, number and placement of permanent
markers, follow-up of concerns regarding marina maintenance, follow-up of the proposal regarding sailboat slips, establishment of a CLSA nominating committee, and follow-up and a possible enhancement to Murray Island.

In closing I would like to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to all the retiring executive members who carried on this past summer and made the season such a success by devoting personal time and energy to extra duties. Special thanks also to these folks for their dedicated long term service to the CLSA ( Hats off to Gerrie and AL). I also commend all the volunteers who contribute to the sailing association events, whether it is setting marks, cooking steak for the gang or opening up their homes so generously to host after race events. Thank you so much and bouquets to you all.

May your winter be good one.
